12/31/08 - Last batch for 2008. Loads more to post in 2009 so don't touch that dial. You know, the "dial."

The Beach Boys at the Casper Events Center in Casper, WY in 1983
U2 with Lone Justice at The Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford, NJ in 1987
Squeeze at the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool, Merseyside, England in 1987
Stiff Little Fingers at the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool, Merseyside, England in 1991
1st Annual Halloween Ball with Tears For Fears & Jellyfish at the Aladdin Theatre in Las Vegas, NV in 1993

12/29/08 - One pretty ticket stub going up this morning. Tis:

Jellyfish (Andy Sturmer, Roger Manning, Tim Smith & Eric Dover touring their last album "Spilt Milk") at The London Astoria in Astoria, London, England in 1993

12/28/08 - One hastily-added Van Halen ticket stub from the low resolution lot going up this afternoon:

Van Halen at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, NY in 1981

12/25/08 - Happy Christmas, More Low-Fi Stubs, If You Want It!

The Who (this was the year they made the Guinness Book of World Records for the loudest concert ever at Charlton Athletic Football Ground) at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY in 1976
Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers with Tommy Tutone (two years before "Jenny") at Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, IN in 1980

12/24/08 - I've been spending my posting-ticket-stubs time identifying-unknown-stubs and adding-support-acts-to-existing-stubs. Still trying to find out who played at this show:

Rock And Roll Reunion (lineup may have included Clyde McPhatter of the Drifters - I'm sure that it was a lot of pre-British Invasion acts like Chubby Checker, Fats Domino, The Coasters, The Platters etc.) at New York Academy of Music or Madison Sqaure Garden in New York, NY in December 26th, 1971

OK, I saw a site that indicates that Cactus played at Madison Square Garden on December 26th, 1971. If that wasn't a Rock And Roll Reunion, then the stub above must be from the New York Academy of Music. The following also suggests that there was a revival show at the Academy in 1971:

Shangri-las - When the opportunity for a good show came up, they took it. One notable show took place at the New York Academy of Music where they shared top billing with girl group rivals, The Ronettes.

Fleetwoods 4th Annual Rock N Roll Revival - New York Academy of Music 1971

Found this info on a Bo Diddley fansite in the 1971 section:

He performs at Richard Nader's "1950s Rock & Roll Revival" concert at New York's Madison Square Garden with artists including Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Bobby Rydell and Rick Nelson & The Stone Canyon Band; Rick Nelson's experience at the show later inspires the hit song "Garden Party".

The above show may have been October 19th, 1971. Also found this in a list of concerts seen:

1971 - 1973 - Drifters, Coasters, Belmonts, Capris, Monotones, Harptones - Academy of Music - New York

Also posted a stub -

The Stranglers ("Dreamtime") at Wembley Arena in Middlesex, England in 1986

...and a Stranglers fanzine (Strangled) on ROCKstuff.

12/21/08 - Modified the Search section so that the band search options are alphabetized. The old system listed all of the thousands of band names on the first search page. The new setup will load faster and make it easier to find the artist that you are looking for. Just select the list that you want by the first character in the band or artist's name. For example, click on B to search for The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Billy Preston etc. Click on J for James Taylor, Jethro Tull, The Jacksons etc.

12/19/08 - A few more of the icky ticket scans going up this evening:

The Bee Gees (America 1989 tour) at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, CA in 1989
Bob Dylan ("Street Legal") at The Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles, CA in 1978

Alvin Lee at The Rodeo in San Diego, CA in 1983
David Lindley at The Rodeo in San Diego, CA in 1982
King Crimson with Alan Kaye at Akron Agora Ballroom in Cleveland, OH in 1981

Here's another ticket stub that I would love help identifying. The ticket is from an April, 24th 1976 show by Aerosmith and took place in either Massachusetts, Indiana or Kentucky. Massachusetts is likely because they did shows there days before and after this date. Indiana and Kentucky are possible because it's a Sunshine event.

I found 2 other ticket stubs from the lot that the Aerosmith ticket came in and they are both from Tennessee.

Few more from the lowres ticket scans:

REO Speedwagon (touring "You Can Tune a Piano but You Can't Tuna Fish") at Cheap Trick (their 3rd album "Heaven Tonight" out this year) at New Century Theatre in Buffalo, NY in 1978

12/17/08 - Squirted up some pretty ticket stubs from the 1970s. Need help with either dating or identifying the artists on a couple of the tickets.

The Band or The Steve Miller Band at the Niagara Falls Convention Center in Niagara Falls, NY in 1974
Joe Cocker (touring his 4th album "I Can Stand a Little Rain") with Little Feat & Focus at the Niagara Falls Convention Center in Niagara Falls, NY in 1974 (need help with this date)

The Ramones (Marky's back in the lineup) at The Back Room in Austin, TX in 1990

Here's another story that accompanies the Ramones stub above:

"On my travels through the US, I hooked up with another English guy Ray as a mate & travelling partner, so when we heard about a re-scheduled Ramones gig in our adopted town of Austin, we had to be there & see them, usually it was them 6000 miles from home when I saw them, now it would be my turn.

Rays' Texan girlfriend introduced us to three Texan guys who were going to the gig so we had a few beers with them pre-gig, but they seemed hell bent on self-destruct, mixing alcohol;skunk & magic mushrooms in large doseage. This continued on the back of the pick-up where four of us rolled around, I managed to pass the joints away more often than not & faked some mushroom munching but was slyly dropping them over the side of the pick-up instead. Normally I might have been more receptive to their kind offerings but on this occasion wanted to be 100% for potentially an awesome gig. The three Texans were all wearing black T-shirts with large 'SECURITY' logo's, they said that they always got in free at gigs with these on but Ray & I politely declined as we already had tickets.

Sure enough we got to the 'Backroom' and the three of them waltzed through past the doormen,

Ray showed his ticket & was through too & off to the bar no doubt, I showed my ticket walked on & was dragged back by a doorman. "You can't come in, no Florida colours in here" he said, I didn't have a clue what he meant, he pointed at my T-shirt and said the same thing again. I had on a Harley Davidson T-shirt on, bought 6000 miles away in Leeds which happened to have Daytona written on it, I made some protestations but in vain.

I suddenly had a brainwave, there were two fat truckers talking by their trucks so I went over introduced myself & explained my plight, I asked if they had a T-shirt I could swap with them. They laughed & one said "sure do", then reached into his truck & pulled out a bright red T-shirt which stank of diesel and had the logo 'truckers make better lovers',(possibly left there by one of his roadside conquests). I politely declined, my love of this band was being seriously questioned.

I decided to move behind the trucks & took off my T-shirt;tore off the label;turned it back to front & inside out so the logo was literally on my back.

Went back to the nazi on the door who asked where I got a new shirt,so I pointed at the truckers who were still laughing at me & told him we made a swap.

YES, I was in, the band weren't on yet so I went for a piss & almost fell over a man on the toilet floor passed out with SECURITY written on his shirt, (yes one of our new buddies) I tried to wake him but he was somewhere else, mushroomland. Walked back into the hall just as the band walked on stage, Ray asked me where I'd been & passed me two cold beers, told him I'd explain later........1-2-3-4 blamma blamma blamma

p.s. Can't leave my mate CJ out.

After arriving back in England I handed him a spare for the gig that I found for his collection, he thanked me & stuck it in his wallet. About two weeks later he decided to walk home through our local ghetto after partying too hard, he got beat up & mugged, wallet and all."

...and lastly, some festivals:

12/05/08 - A friend of the site has taken the time to go through the gig history links and ID broken or incorrect paths. He also sent a new list of tour links to help you date your ticket stubs. Will add this data this weekend.

Here are the NY tickets that have been identified so far:

Elvis Presley ("Elvis: As Recorded At Madison Square Garden") at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY in 1972
Blue Oyster Cult (touring their 2nd album "Tyranny and Mutation") with Slade at New York Academy of Music in New York, NY in 1973
Slade with Brownsville Station ("Smokin' In the Boys Room" out this year) at New York Academy of Music in New York, NY in 1973
Jethro Tull at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, NY in 1972

12/04/08 - Received a lot of New York stubs today from one of the earliest contributors to the site. Most are from 1971-1974 and are torn in a way to make identifying the artists/bands very difficult. Where are you D and P? Daddy needs some help.

Unknown band (two codes that are possibly dates - 03/09 & 04/22) at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY in 1974
Rock And Roll Reunion (who, who, who?) at New York Academy of Music or Madison Square Garden in New York, NY in December 26th, 1971
Unknown band at New York Academy of Music in New York, NY in December 27th, 1971
Unknown band at New York Academy of Music in New York, NY in March 16th, 1974
Unknown band at New York Academy of Music in New York, NY in June 15th, 1974
Unknown band at New York Academy of Music in New York, NY in 1973 (I figured this one out - Blue Oyster Cult with Slade)
Unknown band at New York Academy of Music in New York, NY in 1973 (I got this one too - Slade with Brownsville Station)
Unknown band (Marked Show C, which suggests that this was show 3 of X. Also marked "RCA Tours Present." Price for the show was $10 which is very steep. I think that The Rolling Stones at MSG in 1972 were only $6 or $7.) at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY in 1972 (Thanks to D., this mystery appears to be solved - this is Elvis Presley's third show at Madison Square Garden. Who else could have charged more than the Stones? - )
Unknown band at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, NY in 1972 (this one is Jethro Tull)

(ticketholder's story about The Ramomes show)

"Cold December in Manchester and a car load of us arrived from Leeds way too early for the gig & consequently hit the 'sauce' too early. At one of the pubs along the way we spotted a soap star from 'Coronation Street' having a quiet drink. After much piss taking & taunting him of his love of Man Utd, (our sworn enemies), we were asked to leave by the landlord. Never been so early for a Ramones gig ever, foolishly laden with T-shirts & posters pre-gig.

About half-way through the set CJ my buddy who had sensibly left the pub early with me for the Leeds gig in my last tale, said 'hold my jacket for bit, the next time you see me I'll be on that stage' he nodded towards the stage sagely. I think a lifetime of 'Ramones-love' manifested itself in him at that moment, (helped by enough alcohol to kill a rhino). I took his precious ripped leather jacket with hand painted presidential logo & he disappeared off towards the mosh pit, where he disappeared from view. We watched & waited but no sign of him, maybe eight or ten songs came & went...then a voice from behind me said 'give us me jacket Jack'.

CJ's plan was going well as he lay on his back, propelled towards the stage on a sea of hands, but as he reached the stage he was intercected by two 'gorillas' who dragged him along the stage & out through a fire door, a brave but ultimately futile attempt.

He dusted himself down & walked back round the building to the entrance & had all on to explain to the cashier that he definitely wanted to buy a ticket for ten minutes of the Ramones. But he got closer to Joey than any of the rest of us would!!"

Also added some Rolling Stones amature photographs from the Some Girls tour in 1978.

12/03/08 - Cute mix of tickets going up this afternoon. Picked up another 1,500 of the lower quality stubs. I've still only posted a small percentage of the original 3,000 because of the quality and, unfortunately, the new batch is more of the same. The primary issue is .jpg distortion. Will try to clean up and post what I can. Fortunately I have been getting a lot of quality contributions so I should be able to keep you in good stuff for quite a while.

Kenny Loggins (in support of his 2nd solo album "Nightwatch") with Steve Martin (I think that Steve probably had some of the largest SNL catch phrases, at least up to this point, with "excuse me!" and "wild and crazy guy." This show was arrow-through-the-head-playing-the-banjo era.) at Pittsburgh Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, PA in 1978

These are from teen magazaines so they feature bands like The Monkees, The Osmonds, The Jackson 5, The Cowsills, Paul Revere And The Raiders, Carpenters, The Dave Clark Five etc. Should have them up by the early evening.

My Lou Reed connection (I'm Waitin For My Scan) sent some neat non-Lou stuff, including an Ian Dury backstage pass and the tickets below:

11/04/08 - Posted a few pictures of The Smiths in Barcelona in 1985 on the ROCKstuff photos page.

11/03/08 - Some very cool seventies ticket stubs from Detroit, MI going up this afternoon. I've also scanned the back of the stubs as they have the band names scrawled on them by the original owner. For some reason that really appeals to me.

The Guess Who (touring "Artificial Paradise") at Masonic Auditorium in Detroit, MI in 1973
King Crimson (supporting 1974's "Red") at Masonic Auditorium in Detroit, MI in 1975

The Beach Boys (Carl And The Passions - "So Tough" out this year, left-over material from "Pet Sounds") at Ford Auditorium in Detroit, MI in 1972

11/02/08 - Added about 20 amature pictures of concerts on the ROCKstuff photos page. As always, these pictures were taken by audience members, so they are sometimes blurry, grainy, off-center or painfully arty. I love them and I hope you do too.

Lennon and Elton performed "Whatever Gets You Through The Night", "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" & "I Saw Her Standing There." It was John Lennon's last appearance on stage.) at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY in 1974

...and a pile of ticket stubs from Minneapolis. Many of the lots of stubs that end up on the gallery are complete collections that someone has either contributed to the site or sold on a sales site. Instead of talking about the bands this time, I'd like you to look over this lot and think about the person who attended these shows. (You could play the same game with the Kansas City shows above or the Arkansas shows below.) Consider that most people attend the most concerts right before and during their college years. What does this collection tell us about the attendee? Male or female? Were they spirited? Gentle? Comfortable in their own skin? Leader? Follower? Look at the concert-goer's history. He/She attended about a show a year until 1980 when he/she saw 4 concerts and then 5 in 1981. Then they drip and stop. Why was that? What changed in her/his life? One last clue about the previous owner of the stubs - the tickets were glued in a scrapbook. Go.

10/22/08 - On vacation so there is a brief lull in new tickets. I have received over 100 wonderful scans over the last week and still have the 1,000+ lesser scans to add. Should start posting again on the 26th.

Loverboy with Quiet Riot at Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, MI in 1983
The Neville Brothers with Alex Chilton at The Ritz in New York, NY in 1987

Mary Chapin Carpenter (promoting 1996's "A Place in the World") at Paramount Theatre in Austin, TX in 1997

Also picked up some really swell snapshots taken by amateurs at vintage concerts that I'll be posting on ROCKstuff in November. Acts include The Ramones, The Osmonds, Black Oak Arkansas, David Bowie, New Kids On The Block, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Smiths and more.

10/12/08 - It's the 1970s in Kansas City. Kids wear mustaches instead of tattoos, ecstasy is smoking pot and throwing a frisbee, beats are known as jams and you boogie instead of busting moves. Rock music is loud, crotchy, hairy and sweaty and is restricted to the largest venues on the planet. Here's your proof:

Summer Jam with Kansas, Van Halen & The Steve Miller Band at Royals Stadium in Kansas City, MO in 1977
Summer Rock II with The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt & Dan Fogelberg at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO in 1978
Summer Jam I with Van Halen, Black Oak Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, U.K. & Rick Derringer in Great Bend, KS in 1978
Summer Jam/Summer Rock with Ted Nugent, Heart, Bob Welch, Sammy Hagar, Missouri & The Cars at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO in 1979

10/06/08 - Posted a half-dozen ticket stubs from seventies concerts, including:

Humble Pie (since I'm not sure of the year, I'm not sure if the lineup included Steve Marriott, Peter Frampton, Clem Clempson, Greg Ridley or Jerry Shirley) at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, CA in 1974-1976
David Bowie (Station To Station) at the Inglewood Forum in Inglewood, CA in 1976
Ten Years After (I think the band split up in 1974 and these yellow stubs are generally from '73-'76 so...) at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, CA in 1973-1974

10/05/08 - Wrote a program to run through the database and verify that the image links work. It found 71 missing files! I've managed to work that down to 5. I can't find the missing 5 so I have pulled them.

I've secured the services of one of the ombudsmen in writing sassy comments about the shows on the updates page. I hope you enjoy them.

A few California stubs going up this morning. Some of them are torn so severely that the years and/or the venues are missing.

Cheap Trick (Sorry, but I would never want to be responsible for tuning all those guitars. And the five neck jobber? Ever hear of the The Texas Chain Saw Massacre?) at The Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA in 1981
Crosby, Stills, Nash And Young (Back around 1974 I attended a Stills/Nash concert. So yes, I am part of the brotherhood.) at United Center in Chicago, IL in 2002

The Marshall Tucker Band (They were named in a mocking tribute after their high school history teacher. NOT.) at San Diego Civic Theatre in San Diego, CA in 1977 or 1978

The Outlaws (Marshal Tucker Band wannabe's. Sorry.) in San Diego, CA in 1978
Alvin Lee at The Rodeo in 1983
Jethro Tull (The Stormwatch tour. Shortly thereafter, Barrie Barlow, John Evan and David Palmer would be banished from the Tull line-up. Now referred to as "The Big Split". Sad indeed.) in San Diego, CA in 1979
The Marshall Tucker Band (Around this time, Circus Magazine reported that The Marshall Tucker Band was at war with Molly Hatchet. I think it had something to do with which band "owned" which groupies.) in San Diego, CA in 1978

10/04/08 - Dig:

Mountain (How is this for a concert line-up? Mountain, Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Meatloaf. Think about it.) in California in 1974

Jackson Browne with David Lindley (Worth the price of admission just to see and hear David "Oh, Won't You Stay" Lindley.) at Symphony Hall in San Diego, CA in 1987
The Charlie Daniels Band (Ah yes, the good ole' days when Charlie was a democrat.) at San Diego State University - Open Air Theatre in San Diego, CA in 1980

10/03/08 - I have some wonderful tickets coming, from my own purchases and from generous contributors. Should start posting this weekend or early next week. Today I'm just listing a ticket from the show below. I actually already have this stub in the database from another show. The interesting thing is that both attendees wrote the names of the artists on the back of the ticket stub. I love that and will generally include a scan of the back of the ticket.

09/23/08 - No new tickets today because "somebody" (the other Paulie) wants the ticket history database to be "accurate" and kept me busy making corrections. Most of the issues were tickets listed out of order - a 1991 stub in the 1995 listings or a January 1985 in the November 1985 listings.

09/22/08 - I posted some scans of vintage concert ticket stubs that I want you to look at. Please understand that these stubs were not scanned at 300dpi nor saved as .tiffs or .pngs. OK?

God bless you George and Richard.

09/12/08 - I want to say something. Sometimes, through my own research or from the kindness of strangers, I find additional information about a concert well after I've written about it in the Updates section. While I immediately correct the database, I do not go back and correct the journal. For example, today I discovered while posting a ticket stub for a David Johansen show at the The Palladium on New Year's Eve in 1978, I already had a Patti Smith ticket listed for the same venue and date. A few minutes of research showed that the Smith show was actually in 1976. Somewhere in the journals the Smith show is probably listed as 1978 and I won't look for it and modify it. I did modify the database right away. So, I'm saying trust the search results from the database over the Just Listed logs. But enough of my yacking. Here's what's going up today:

Concert 10 with Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Black Sabbath, Rod Stewart with Faces, Humble Pie, Cactus, Edgar Winter, J. Geils Band, Bull Angus, Mother Night, Groundhogs, Claire Hamil, Ramatam & Three Dog Night at Pocono International Raceway in Mount Pocono, PA in 1972

09/04/08 - Will post some nice vintage stubs later this afternoon. Before I do, I want to tip my hat again to one of our major contributors - let's call him Paulie. Paulie is constantly checking the database for errors, identifying unknown dates and researching support acts. This site has many good friends who contribute scans and info, but Paulie does it with ferocity. If you use this site as a tool, you owe Paulie a peck on the cheek. Go on. I'm not looking, I'm busy scanning stubs.

07/07/08 - Added 5 rock and roll ticket stubs from the 1970s this afternoon. Am also including the owners memories of the shows.

Crosby, Stills, Nash And Young (the "So Far" compilation is out this year) with Seals and Crofts ("Seals & Crofts I & II" & "Unborn Child" released this year) & Jesse Colin Young ("Light Shine") at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ in 1974

"Ok, where were you on August 8, 1974 when Nixon announced his resignation? About 10 of us revved up for this one even before we knew it was going to be an historic event."

"We had all sorts of stuff that would keep us wasted all day and into the evening. There were other musicians on the bill, most likely Seals and Croft and Jessie Collin Young (hey people now come together, try to love one another right now). It went something like that (best song Dino Valenti of Quicksilver wrote, although he sold the right for a pittance to help him with legal fees and living expenses). But I digress."

"I filled up a watermelon with Vodka and walked right past John Scher with it lying on my shoulder. The whole scene was chaotic. It you stood up, we threw ice at you. It you talked too loud, Crosby would have a hissy fit and threaten to shut down the show."

"In the end they played about 2 1/2 hours, but they didn't enjoy it. Roosevelt Stadium was a pit. And the crowd wouldn't shut up. But Neil had the sense to tell Crosby to shut up and go electric. The acoustic set just wasn't going to work that day. The unruly crowd forced them into it"

"It was probably the last time they played there. But you can be sure they partied afterwards and toasted the dreaded Nixon, who they helped push out of office. Ahhhh, the good old days when musicians and young people had some control over politicians and the government."

"Ok, I think I've reminisced enough for one day. Please don't hold me to all the so-called facts. We had a lot of hootch that day."

Traffic (supporting "When the Eagle Flies" - their last album until the '90s) at New York Academy of Music in New York, NY in 1974

"This stub is historic, but not in a good way. It's from a Traffic show at Howard Stein's Academy of Music on September 19, 1974 (I think)."

"Soon after the tour, which ended early, the group broke up. This tour was meant to promote their last album, When the Eagle Flies. While the album was a financial success, it didn't represent the kind of music that I wanted to hear, but I went to the concert anyway hoping that they would do a bunch of their older tunes."

"I loved listening to the John Barleycorn Must Die, The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys and Shoot Out At the Fantasy Factory, which incorporated a lot of extended jams, jazz, blues, and world music."

"In 1974, Stevie dropped the Muscle Shoals guys (David Hood and Roger Hawkins) along with Ric Grech (bass), Reebop Kwaku Baah (African percussionist), and Dave "Freakin'" Mason. THESE ARE THE GUYS THAT CREATED ALL THE TRAFFIC MUSIC I LOVED."

"So in 1974 Stevie goes out with just Capaldi (who was solid on drums) and Chris Wood (flute, sax, piano, beer guzzler, drug addict). And it's a mess."

"I had tickets for two nights, and the first night Wood couldn't stand up. He knocked over the drum kit, fell down with the sax in his hands, and then fell off the piano bench. And all this happened before they finished their second song."

"The roadies came out and smacked him around a bit, put him back on the piano bench, took each one of his hands and put them on the piano keys, and then headed backstage. Within a minute or two he hit the floor again. They eventually dragged him off the stage and he was done for the night."

"On the other side of the stage a fragile looking Winwood sat behind the organ with a guitar strapped on and handled the vocals, bass (he used his feet to control the pedals of the organ), guitar, and piano parts. ALL AT THE SAME TIME!."

"After 45 minutes, the guy gave into the stress and he took Traffic off the stage. After a few more shows, Winwood canceled the tour due to an ulcer. I WASN'T SURPRISED."

"Now for the story on my cohorts. Well, if you were at the Academy in the 70s, you know it was the ultimate drug den. Cohort number 1 fell asleep next to me, so I knew where he was. And cohort number 2 went upstairs to the bathroom and never came back. When I woke up number 1 at the end of the show, he says, "Did it start yet?" Well, I could have honestly said "No" because it never really got going, but I told him the truth. The next task was to find Ronnie (cohort number 2). For some reason we had a sixth sense as to where he was. And we were right. He was snoozing upstairs on the marble bench in the disgusting men's room. We did to Ronnie what the roadies did to Chis Wood and I took both of them back to NJ to sleep this one off."

"Seems like every show I went to in New York, I got back the smallest stub. At the Capitol in Passaic, you always got the larger portion of the stub with the date and the name of the band. Good thing I was smart enough to mark this one up with the word "Traffic" when I got home that night."

"Stevie Winwood was only 26 years old at the time and soon after decided to go solo and make total pop music. What a shame."

Van Morrison (touring "Veedon Fleece" - considered one of his best ablums) at Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ in 1974

"In 1974 Van was the Man for a bunch of us living in NJ. But the trick was to catch him on good night. Mr. Stage Fright was getting all kinds of reviews back then, good and bad."

"Sometimes he would refuse to play. Sometimes he'd play 1/2 a show. And at other times he'd wow the crowd with an amazing set singing, playing piano, honking on the saxaphone, and generally going into one of his spaced out, I-might-never-stop-playing moods."

"What i saw was the later. At one point he decided to sing from the back of the stage without a microphone - in a 3,000 plus seat theatre. And it was GREAT! He did another number lying on the piano with a microphone. He felt comfortable in the Capital and it was like having a really, really talented friend come over your house and entertain for you all night long. It's hard to forget this one."

"We paid a whopping $6.30, with 30 cents going to Ticketron. The date on this ticket is November 02, 1974. It is in very good condition."

The Marshall Tucker Band (touring their 3rd album "Where We All Belong") with The Charlie Daniels Band (showcasing their platinum album "Fire on the Mountain") & Roger McGuinn (supporting his 2nd solo album "Peace on You") at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ in 1974

"The Allmans made southern rock-jazz-blues cool. But after they lost Duane and Berry, they weren't the same, although we kept buying tickets to their shows. But if you were looking for something that was fresh, vibrant, and not drunk all the time, it was Marshall Tucker."

"And two of them were brothers, although Caldwell was their last name. I believe we saw the original lineup: Doug Gray (lead vocals), Toy Caldwell (vocals, guitar), Tommy Caldwell (bass), George McCorkle (guitar), Jerry Eubanks (flute) and Paul Riddle (drums)."

"I'm not sure what they are like today because they kind of had the same fate as the Allmans: Toy, Tommy and George (the heart and soul of the group, the driving force) all passed away way too young."

"But back in 1974 on a cold New Jersey night in November at the good old Capitol in Passaic, they could have held their own with the 1971 Allmans. With Roger McGuinn and the Charlie Daniels Band on the bill, it was a night to remember. The next day we renewed our memberships to the Flannel Shirt Club and fired our barbers. We were converted into southern rockers."

Jethro Tull (supporting "Minstrel in the Gallery") with Carmen at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY in 1975

"Tull played three shows at Madison Square Garden in 1975: March 7th, March 10th, and August 3rd. I marked up the ticket with the word "Tull" when I got home that night after the show, as the mean old ticket takers at the Garden probably kept the other half for themselves."

"Here is the guy's website that keeps track of things like tour schedules for Tull: http://www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/setlist/75.htm"

"The March 7th set list shows the following:"

, Minstrel/Wind-Up
, Passion Play
, Thick As A Brick
, Wond'ring Aloud/Again, My God (incl. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen)
, Bourée
, Living In The Past (inst.)
, Thick As A Brick (reprise)
, Pop Goes The Weasel
, SeaLion
, Skating Away
, WarChild
, WarChild Suite
, Queen And Country
, Reasons For Waiting
, Cross-Eyed Mary
, Bungle In The Jungle
, Aqualung
, Back-Door Angels
, Locomotive Breath / Hard-Headed English General / Back-Door Angels

"This seems like the show I saw, but my memory of it is not 100 percent on this (hey it was 34 years ago)."

"I DO remember that it ranks up there as one of the top 5 concerts that I have ever seen in my life, as Ian Anderson was only 27 years old and could leap off 10 foot risers and land back on stage in perfect time while playing the flute (I don't think he does that trick anymore)."

Aerosmith (suppoting "Rocks") at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY in 1976

"All I knew about this stub was that I was at Madison Square Garden on December 17, 1976. And the name of the band ended in "th". It was driving me nuts because all I did in the 70s was go to rock concerts and night clubs."

"After about two hours of racking my brain and searching for an MSG archive of concerts I came across a website that an Aerosmith nut put together: http://rateyourmusic.com/list/JonFox/aerosmiths_70s_tour_dates"

"And there it was - 12/17/1976... New York, NY - Madison Square Garden (you have to scroll down a bit to see it)."

"All I remember about this one was that my pal Beav brought a ton of weed and thought it would be funny to get the 13 year kids sitting next to us behind the stage so messed that they would either end up in the bathroom all night or go home early and call their parents to pick them up."

"I think it turned out to be the later. It was kinda hard to feel the band and the show from behind the stage, so we split before the last encore and decided to mess around in NYC. Glad I saw Steven Tyler and friends, however. It was a solid show, as always, from the Band from Boston."

Curiously, the ticket stub is nestled shoulder to shoulder in the gallery with a stub from Shaun Cassidy's show at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, WI. The Shaun Cassidy concert was on June 24th and the Andy Gibb show on the 25th. What a time to be alive.
